According to the translation service ImmenaResearchers are constantly trying to break down the limitations of the Internet and come up with new ways to speed it up. Recently, a group of Japanese scientists from the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (NICT) managed to break the Internet speed record by recording a transfer rate of 319 terabytes per second. The record for the fastest internet in the world was previously set in August 2020 at 179 terabytes per second by a group of British and Japanese researchers.
NICT researchers used new fiber-optic technology to upgrade high-speed Internet access by upgrading all network components. The fiber optic line had four cores instead of a conventional one, and the scientists used a 552-channel laser with different wavelengths. The laser was amplified by ground stations, and the researchers used twisted fiber to transmit information over a simulated distance of about 3,000 kilometers so as not to lose signal quality or speed.
Researchers at NICT believe that their greatest achievement has been the creation of quad-core optical fiber, which is about the size of ordinary fibers and can easily be used in current standard systems to increase speed. This group of scientists believe that it is necessary to achieve more speed and increase the transmission capacity.
